Don't Linger, Go Ginger

Vera | 16 | Netherlands Downtonian, Whovian and Janeite.

Aspiring writer, history lover and full time fangirl of Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, Ashes to Ashes and anything Period Drama. I'm going to be the first female prime minister and travel the stars with the Doctor. Watching right now: Castle and Life on Mars My primary blog: Rosings Park

Dear followers,

There may be some lack of posts on my side of the tumblrverse. I have about three weeks of school left. Those three weeks are literally filled with work I still have to do. I have to write an essay about a Dutch book, the french book Oscar et la Dame Rose, and Northanger Abbey. I also have to write an essay about the black death, heaps of Thomas More to translate for Latin, and a bunch of words for English and French, and for French grammar as well. And that’s what I have to do for this week.

Then the week after that’s when the testweek starts, and still there are shitloads to do and organise, even silly things like buying proper shoes where I can walk on through the whole of Brussels. Yeah.

So, anyway. When I have time, I’ll let you know when I’m alive and/or queue a few things.

I think I’ll be properly back after friday 5 July. There’ll be moments when I have nothing to do, so don’t think my blog will be a deserted place until July, or something.

Good, back to French and Latin now.

Today it is exactly a year ago that I first saw Lost in Austen. Tomorrow a year ago, I will read the first words of dear Jane Austen.

Sometimes people talk about things— books, movies, anything like that—, that completly  and utterly change your lives, and you think: yeah, sure. But Pride and Prejudice changed my life so so much that I can hardly believe how downright idiotic and ignorant and uninterested in basically everything I was. Austen changed my view on everything, besides setting my hopes up much higher as to guys, the books also got me really interested in history and has resulted in me having too little space for all my books and period drama dvds. Come to think of it, I wouldn’t know you lot if it weren’t for somebody that posted on a weblog about Lost in Austen, and PeriodxDrama on youtube who had uploaded the episodes, I wouldn’t have watched a whole bunch of period dramas, including Downton.

And most of all: I would not have been the person I am now. God this sounds incredibly, incredibly cheesy but really, it is true. I am sure I will still read it once in a while when I am eighty, and I will practically feed it to any possible children and grandchildren.

So that’s me rambling away emotionally. May 18th will be praise Jane Austen day from now instead of my former best friend’s birthday who totally got off track and drinks and cuts and smokes.

Note to self: tomorrow:

- sort out books, make list of read vs unread;
- ten lines of Thomas More just to get it over with;
- clean up room;
- get shit for party together, clean up;
- prepare food for party;
- paragraph of social studies;
- Torchwood;
- read.

Oh by the way I’ve started watching Torchwood. And this shit is good. Like: ewjgirwohgj-good. And mindblowing good. And hot. And shippy. And VERY VERY epic. It has something a bit angstier and darker than Doctor Who. And now I’m starting episode seven and I’m shipping Owen/Gwen like cheese and fire.

Hola, some information on my possible absence for the following 1,5 weeks.

This week is MEP week. Instead of a month in which we had to do everything during school MEP, we now have, yay, three days. >.> So, as of tomorrow morning 8.30 I’ll be making long long days (tomorrow till 18.30, thursday till 17.00 then out for dinner and friday till about 16.00) and trying to find a plan to prevent further decrease of biodiversity and the threat of overpopulation. And I should’ve read a lot about this, but I haven’t, so that might prove to be a problem sometime these few days.

Something completely different: I will be on holiday from April 30th till May 6th, so as of tomorrow there will be fewer posts, probably. That’s not a guarantee. I haven’t queued, so there might not be any posts at all, but I’m fairly certain we’ll have internet in Hillerød, so it’s also very possible that your dash will be flooded with my fangirling.

Anyway: I’ll obviously post some updates on the MEP area.

/This has been a post. Have some David Tennant.

(By the way— Only ONE Bafta nomination?! Scandalous. Ridiculous.)

Why I love thrift stores:

  • 650 page Henry VIII autobiography
  • North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell (I’ve been looking for it for ages)
  • A book about the Industrial Revolution
  • Book about Luther
  • Greek myths
  • Book about English kings and queens

And that for only €5,50!

My dad’s birthday is tomorrow, so my mum and I made ‘arretjescake’, it’s Dutch. Or at least, as far as I know it is. And it is fan-tas-tic. So I’m going to just describe how to make it for the non-Dutchies who have to miss out on this epicness. It’s all chocolate-y and cookie-y. Yeah. You only need basic products and it doesn’t go into the oven, so it’s very easy.
